In May, the Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) representatives of the five West Coast College campuses and the central office attended a GBVF workshop as part of the 100-Day GBVF Awareness Campaign. The representatives included members from various departments such as Human Resources, Student Support Services, Academics, the Student Representative Council and support staff, as well as residence staff.

This workshop was hosted to shed more light on what is expected from the representatives and equip them with the needed information and skills to take the message of action against GBVF to the rest of the staff and students on campus and office level. The workshop included various presentations from the GBVF Campaign coaches as well as other discussions that shed more light on the way forward with the GBVF Campaign as the college prepares to launch the campaign officially at the end of May 2025.

“We will continue to support and share information with our campus and central office representatives that will allow them to assist any student and staff member who might have had experience with gender-based violence and femicide throughout this campaign,” says Ntombekhaya Nduna, Student Support Manager and champion for this campaign.

The 100-Day campaign has already passed the 1-month mark, and the college will continue to share the message of support and awareness with its stakeholders, staff and students till the end of the 100 days.

“We look forward to seeing what the campuses and the central office will do to take the message to the staff and students and put what they have been equipped with into action,” adds Nduna.

The 100-Day campaign is part of a greater strategy from the Department of Higher Education and will continue to be one of the key campaigns in 2025
