On Thursday, 19 March, the West Coast College Atlantis Campus had the privilege of hosting the visiting City Soul Choir from Canada, under the guidance of Bongani Music Creations. The occasion marked a memorable day of choral music, cultural exchange, and shared learning, offering the international visitors an opportunity to experience the campus and engage with students and staff while gaining insight into the achievements that make the college distinctive.
The day’s programme included a guided campus tour, messages of welcome and support from campus and college executive management, and a celebration of music through collaborative performances. A standout highlight was a moving mass choir performance, where both choirs joined voices to perform a composition by Bongani Magatyana, founder of Bongani Music Creations. The joint performance showcased unity, harmony, and the powerful ability of music to bridge cultures and continents.
Adding to the warmth of the visit was a thoughtful and unexpected gesture from one of the City Soul Choir members, who presented the college choir conductor with handmade soap crafted over five days. The soap, designed in the colours of the South Africa flag, was received with heartfelt appreciation and symbolised the spirit of friendship and goodwill that defined the day.
Each choir brought its own unique energy and musical expression, creating an atmosphere of mutual respect, creativity, and cultural appreciation. The performances reaffirmed the idea that music is a universal language capable of connecting people from diverse backgrounds.
West Coast College extends its sincere gratitude to the City Soul Choir for sharing their talents, generosity, and cultural heritage with the Atlantis Campus community. The college wishes the choir continued success for the remainder of their tour and a safe journey home.
