West Coast College recently hosted its Women’s Day event for the first time in a face-to-face capacity since the start of the pandemic. The college has continued with digital versions of the event but was thrilled that it could host a face-to-face one at the Malmesbury Campus Student Centre.

Ladies from all five college campuses converged in Malmesbury with one thing and one aim: To be inspired and let their hair down. This year saw the campuses link with the Mama Mia theme and boy were the ladies ready to come in their ABBA suites, frills, glitter and dungarees.

“We are so glad that we had this opportunity to host this for our ladies. After this year and all that has happened we really thought that we need to give our ladies an opportunity and a day that they just can enjoy themselves,” said Rhazia Hamza, West Coast College Deputy Principal: Innovation and Development.

The day also saw Yolanda Nieman, Mrs Globe South Africa Top 40 Finalist, be the guest speaker and encourage the ladies to not let anything get in their way of following their dream.

“I literally had R50 in my pocket and decided that I had to leave my home-town and went on a train to Cape Town…And now…the rest is history, but I would not be where I am today if I did not continue to know my worth and keep rushing after my dream – To make a success and help anyone that comes along my way,” she mentioned during her speech.

The day ended with the various campuses being invited to do a dance and jive to one of their selected and favourite ABBA songs. Even one of the college’s own staff members sang an ABBA song.

“In the past, we asked the ladies to contribute money that we used in a fund and donated to a charity, but this year we opted to ask each one to bring along a slightly used bra that acted as their entrance to the event. These received bras will be donated to an organisation that assists ladies who do not have the means to get bras – Afeebra,” added Rhazia.

Should any of the public want to donate, please get in contact with the Central Office on 022 482 1143.
