West Coast College recently hosted a meaningful Corporate Social Investment (CSI) day at its Vredenburg Campus, in partnership with Transnet and the Presidency. The event highlighted the power of collaboration in addressing student needs and supporting community upliftment.
The College was honoured to welcome the Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Honourable Nonceba Mhlauli, who addressed students and campus leadership with a strong message on the importance of partnerships in development.
“Today is the initiation of what we hope to be a long-term relationship between ourselves as government, Transnet as one of the local stakeholders, and the institution,” she shared during her keynote.
As part of the day’s activities, the Deputy Minister and Transnet Executive Mr Oscar Borchards led the handover of food parcels to students experiencing financial hardship. This act of generosity was warmly received and served as a reminder that no student should face their academic journey alone.
The visit also coincided with Day 10 of the College’s Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Awareness Campaign. The Deputy Minister joined the campus in reflecting on the need to take a stand against GBVF and shared words of encouragement with students and staff. Her presence added depth and meaning to the College’s campaign, reinforcing the message that change begins with awareness, advocacy, and action.
