West Coast College, in partnership with the BankSETA and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), recently hosted 14 Grade 12 learners from Proteus Technical High School for a transformative digital literacy and skills training programme at its Atlantis Campus.

The two-week Skills Development Initiative (SDI), funded by BankSETA, aimed to enhance ICT proficiency and work readiness by equipping learners with critical digital skills aligned with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). This initiative not only supported the academic development of learners but also prepared them to navigate the challenges of a rapidly evolving digital economy.
During the programme, learners gained hands-on experience in:
• Coding
• Robotic Processes
• Data Science
• Software Programming

Said Lungisa Mbulawa, West Coast College Principal: “The training sessions that took place here have not only empowered learners with valuable digital skills aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) but also demonstrated the incredible potential of collaboration between basic and higher education. This initiative is a shining example of what can be achieved when we work together to address the skills shortage, particularly in the ever-evolving digital space.”

Said André Muller, Deputy Principal (Acting): Innovation and Development of West Coast College: “This is the first and will definitely not be the last of such initiatives that the College would like to partner with Proteus on, and we look forward to more such engagements in future.”

The journey concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony at the College’s Central Office in Malmesbury, where the achievements and growth of the learners were celebrated. Their enthusiasm and commitment throughout the programme were a testament to the potential that lies within South Africa’s youth when given access to relevant, future-focused opportunities.

West Coast College extends its sincere thanks to Proteus Technical High School, BankSETA and the WCED for their ongoing support in shaping futures and unlocking potential. Together, we are building a digitally skilled and future-ready generation.
