Gauteng, June 26, 2025 – West Coast College has once again proven its prowess in the performing arts, with its 49-Students whom were part of the CoSACSA Western Cape team being crowned overall winners at the National CoSACSA Festival held in Gauteng Province from June 22 to 26, 2025. The festival, which saw vibrant participation from all nine provinces, showcased a range of performances from duets to Western pieces, highlighting the rich talent within South Africa’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
The West Coast College team delivered standout performances across multiple categories, securing their position as the festival’s top performers. Njabulo Qweleka from the Vredendal Campus captivated the audience with a breathtaking performance in the Soprano category, earning a well-deserved gold medal. Similarly, Siphosethu Makalima from the Atlantis Campus shone brightly, clinching gold in the Mezzo category. The duet performance by Khayisa Sikhikhi and Ayanda Lurai was equally impressive, bringing home a silver medal that added to the college’s accolades.
Leading the charge was Ms Cansany Gubula, West Coast College’s esteemed choir conductor, who guided the team to another gold medal in the Western Piece category, repeating their success from 2024. Reflecting on the achievement, Ms Gubula expressed immense pride in her choir’s performance, stating, “This is one of the best performances I’ve heard since starting the choir in 2018. To see the growth of choral music within the institution and the students enjoying it brings me so much joy.”
The Sports, Arts & Culture Officer at West Coast College praised the team’s dedication, highlighting the remarkable balance the students have struck between their academic commitments and extracurricular pursuits. “Ms Gubula’s leadership and the students’ hard work have truly paid off. Their ability to excel in both academics and the arts is a testament to their commitment and the supportive environment at West Coast College,” the officer noted.
The National CoSACSA Festival, a celebration of sports, arts, and culture, provided a platform for TVET students to showcase their talents and foster camaraderie across provinces. West Coast College’s triumph not only underscores the institution’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded students but also cements its reputation as a powerhouse in the performing arts.
