COURSE FEES AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT

There are various companies, agencies and organisations you can apply to for financial support, but the two main sources of support for FET colleges are the National Department of Education support fund administered by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), and the Ikapa Elihlumayo Bursary Fund administered by the Western Cape Provincial Government.

Once your application for studies at the College has been accepted and you have been allocated a student number, you can immediately apply for financial aid. You will be assisted by the Student Support Officer (SSO) and Bursary Clerk. You will need the following documentation with your application: Please note that all relevant and full documents must be certified copies of the original papers. No original documents should be handed over to the college. All applications with full documentation must be completed and handed to the college as soon as possible after confirmation of registration. Deadline for applications will close at the end of February.

Students must please note you will not automatically receive a bursary. Even if you have applied, and qualify for a full or partial bursary, your family is still liable for payments should your application not be accepted.

Whilst it is the role of the SSO to assist you with compiling the application form, it remains the ultimate responsibility of the student to make sure that all details, including ID and contact numbers and residential address, are correct and that all the relevant and full documentation are included. The role of the Bursary Clerk is to receive, file and process the application.

Students who qualify for a bursary but fail to progress to the next level, will not be considered for any financial support by the college. This means that your family will be expected to cover the costs of your studies should you fail your examinations and want to continue study at the college.

The final dates for settlement of class fees are:

Year courses                       : 31 July
Semester 1 courses             : 30 April
Semester 2 courses             : 30 September

If a student neglects to settle the final balance on or before the above dates, the student will not be entitled to continue with classes and/or write exams.

MEANS TEST

Students must note that the application for a bursary will involve applying a means test. This means that if your father and/or mother are employed, your family will be expected to make a contribution depending on the salary levels. If your family is expected to make a partial contribution, you will have to pay one-third of it upon enrolment.
